It's CARDIO week at CREW and we figured we would fill you all in on our newest cardio class! What is all this HIIT buzz about? Should I be afraid? Can I handle it?! All the questions have been flooding the hallways at CREW these past couple weeks which is why we are here to give you all the 411.
HIIT stands for high intensity interval training - during this class you'll give an all out effort during a quick intense exercise and then recover with a rest interval. Sometimes you'll use a set of free weights, but most exercises are done with your own body weight.
During this half hour class you'll typically do about 9 different exercises with rest in-between. Need a modification? Not a problem! Before every exercise we give a modification as well as a more advanced version if you're feeling up to the challenge.
Why do we love this so much? HIIT will burn a whole lot of calories for you. How you ask? HIIT will keep your heart rate up for a longer period of time helping you burn more calories and a little secret we call AFTERBURN. Afterburn is created when you cause your body to need more oxygen during an exercise and then needing more oxygen during recovery. (Google: Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption )
This Saturday is our first weekend time slot for HIIT and we are daring you to try it! Step out of your comfort zone and really go for it. It's time to shed some pre-holiday inches and adding HIIT will be a recipe for success!
